Though Goldie became the get-go superstar of jungle, the recordings of Rupert Parkes -- as Code of Practice, Aquarius, Studio Pressure, the Truper and Sentinel, simply to the highest degree magnificently as Photek -- made him an easy piece for the style's most esthetic and level-headed producer. Working his way of life through street-level hardstep (on former productions for Certificate 18 and Street Beats) and windy, subaquatic "mahimahi" tunes for L.T.J Bukem's Good Looking label, Parkes eventually arrived at a well-grounded that pushed the bound of drum'n'bass from the dancefloor into the realm of breakbeat headspace; unlike to the highest degree jungle producers, Parkes has never DJed and seldom goes to clubs. His unbelievably intricate musical rhythm scheduling -- ofttimes requiring weeks of reckoner homework -- and the unmissable aura of paranoid menace on recordings such as "The Hidden Camera" and "Flying saucer" exerted quite an an influence on the return of dark-style drum'n'bass during the late '90s.

As a adolescent, Parkes listened to electro, techno and hip-hop as well as the more than free form side of idle words and fusion. Thanks to a sampler bought with a £2000 loan from the Trust of the Prince of Wales, he began producing tracks and first appeared on Paul Solomon's Certificate 18 Records with singles as Studio Pressure. He likewise recorded for Basement (as Sentinel) and Street Beats (the Truper) before initiating a series of 12-inch singles for his own Photek Records, which gave him credentials and lED to releases on Goldie's Metalheadz label and L.T.J. Bukem's Good Looking, as well as a remix of the Therapy? single "Loose."

Later Parkes had released more than 80 tracks of drum'n'bass on half a 12 labels, he was approached by Virgin and sign-language to a five-album deal with the label's Science imprint (provided he was allowed to stay on recording for other independent labels as well). Parkes' first freeing on Science was The Hidden Camera EP, which appeared in May 1996. The second Science single "Ni-Ten-Ichi-Ryu" displayed an increasing stake in applying the lessons of martial humanities to his programming (the deed is Japanese for "two swords, one technique"). Virgin compiled the latter two releases on 1997's Reduced instruction set computer Vs. Reward, and then released the debut Photek album Modus Operandi in September 1997. Much-hyped though little-praised, the album was followed by 1998's Shape & Function, a compiling including various original Photek Records tracks plus remixes and new tracks. During the next two years, Parkes focussed on his new Photek Productions label, and at long last released a second LP, Solaris, in 2000.

Early Weight Loss Could Help Control Type 2 Diabetes

People world Health Organization lose weightiness soon later being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes have punter control of their blood pressure and blood glucose levels and are more likely to maintain that control level if they regain their weight, say researchers in America.

The study, published on-line in the journal 'Diabetes Care', followed 2,D adults with Type 2 diabetes for four days. Those world Health Organization lost free weight within an average of 18 months after diagnosing were up to twice as probable to attain their blood pressure and blood glucose targets as those wHO didn't turn a loss weight, according to the Kaiser Permanente researchers.

Most participants remained at about the same system of weights during the first trey years of the study, but a small grouping of 314 patients lost an fair of 23 pounds. This group was more likely to suffer blood pressure and glucose targets during the fourth year regular though, by that sentence, most of them had regained their weight.

"The results of this study are interesting. However, we already know that Type 2 diabetes can be undetected for up to 12 years before it is diagnosed. Therefore, although the study measures the essence of early weight loss for quaternary years from the point of diagnosing, we can't be certain how prospicient participants actually had the condition in front they began the bailiwick. It is possible that those world Health Organization benefited nearly from the effects of weight loss soon after being diagnosed had just recently developed Type 2 diabetes. An early diagnosis gave them the best chance of effectively controlling it and reducing their risk of serious complications," said Dr Iain Frame, Director of Research at Diabetes UK.

"Equally, those who did not benefit as a lot from 'early' weight loss may have had the progressive condition for yearner, which could have made it more challenging to control. When you moot that around half of all people with Type 2 diabetes have signs of complications at diagnosing, you potty see why early detection of the condition is vital.

"Maintaining a levelheaded weight is key to good diabetes control. Eating a healthy balanced diet and pickings regular forcible activity is the best way of doing this. Poorly controlled diabetes increases the risk of serious complications such as heart disease, separatrix, kidney failure, blindness and amputation."

Voight signs on for villainous role on "24"

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In his first series role in 40 years, Jon Voight has signed on as a recurring character on the upcoming seventh season of "24."

On the Emmy-winning Fox drama, Voight will play the uber-nemesis of Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland), who is pulling the strings behind next season's terrorist threat.

The character will be introduced during "24's" two-hour Season 7 prequel and will be featured heavily in the latter half of the season.

The prequel, now shooting on location in South Africa, is slated to air November 23, with Season 7 of the series kicking off in January.

Voight's role marks the first high-profile villain casting on "24" since Season 1, when Dennis Hopper appeared in the final episodes as Serbian nationalist Victor Drazen.

Voight did several TV guest spots early in his career -- including a three-episode stint on "Gunsmoke" in the late '60s -- until his movie career exploded with "Midnight Cowboy" in 1969.

A four-time Academy Award nominee, Voight won the best actor Oscar for 1978's "Coming Home." He recently reprised his role as Nicolas Cage's father in "National Treasure: Book of Secrets."

Tom Cruise - Tom Cruise Celebrates Anniversary With Website Launch

Tom Cruise has commemorated the 25th anniversary of his role in Risky Business by launching a personal website.

The Top Gun star burst onto the scene with his leading role in the risque comedy in 1983 and has started up TomCruise.com as a "thank you" to fans for supporting his career.

"It is almost impossible for me to believe that I am celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of Risky Business, my first starring role in a film," he writes on the website.

"In celebration of this occasion, and my 27 years of making movies, I created this site as a thank you, to you, for sharing the journey with me and to invite you to continue to explore what the future will bring."

The attempt to establish a closer relationship with the viewing public could be viewed as a savvy PR move by Cruise, whose outspoken views about Scientologist have fuelled media criticism.

But in light of his well-received appearance on Oprah Winfrey's talkshow and reports that the actor could be considering starring in a fourth Mission: Impossible film - despite his acrimonious fallout with Paramount studios in 2006 - it would seem that an image rehabilitation is under way.

"My hope with this site is to bring you in and share with you the fun I experience every day during the filmmaking process, from working on the script, to the making of the film, through to what we finally see when we settle into our seats and the lights go down," he adds.

Dina Lohan Accuses Ex-Husband Trying To Destroy Her

Lindsay Lohan's mum Dina has labelled her ex-husband Michael "infantile" for blasting her decision to skip a court-ordered family therapy session - so she could pick up her mother of the year award.

Michael was enraged when his ex-wife was hailed as one of Minglingmoms "top mom's" at a Long Island, New York ceremony on Tuesday, calling the award a "joke".

He protested: "Are you kidding? Top celebrity mom? Look at her off-screen antics, her lack of morals and how she conducts herself. I guess they forgot to mention how this top super-mom leaves her kids alone at night and even parties in their presence.

“Just wait until we go back to court. She comes stumbling out of Butter at 3:15 a.m. with bloodshot eyes and a red runny nose, yelling 'Oh, f**k,' when she saw the paparazzi."

Dina now fears Michael's "jealous" outrage will result in his violation of the restraining order she holds against him until 2011.

She says: "He's a loose cannon. He's jealous that I got the award. He even called the organisers and tried to talk them out of giving it to me. He called the owner of the restaurant hosting the event and then called the press himself to say I wasn't going.

"He's using the media to talk to me. I'm getting nervous. Lindsay came to town two weeks ago and wanted security guys there in case he showed up. His parole officer needs to see what he's doing and realise that he cannot address me directly or indirectly.

He wears a tracking device and they'll know if he comes anywhere near me. He's on a mission to destroy me."

Cameron's 8 Simple Rules to the Big Screen

Cameron's '8 Simple Rules for Marrying My Daughter' is the sequel to his bestseller-turned-hit TV series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cameron is adapting his semi-autobiographical novel into a comedy with co-writer Cathryn Michon, author of the 'Grrl Genius Guide' book series.
The film will offer wry commentary in the same vein as his 2001 book '8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter', the basis of ABC's eponymous series starring the late John Ritter.
The plot will revolve around a divorced dad juggling a younger girlfriend and two daughters who both get engaged at the same time.
The book's subtitle, 'And Other Reasonable Advice from the Father of the Bride (Not That Anyone Is Paying Attention)' provides a clue to the central theme.

Hollywood actors and studios clash over Internet clips

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Getting Hollywood actors paid for their smallest performances -- video clips on the Internet -- is shaping up as one their biggest sticking points in stalemated contract negotiations with major studios.

Whether actors must give consent for snippets of their film and TV work to be displayed online, and how much they should earn for them, was the No. 1 disputed issue cited by the Screen Actors Guild after labor talks broke down last Tuesday.

Studios want to freely distribute YouTube-style clips of old TV shows and movies without seeking actors' permission and pay them a flat fee rather than bargain on a price with each performer individually.

The actors' union staunchly opposes that move.

"What they're asking us to do is erase 50 years of our customs and practice," SAG President Alan Rosenberg said in a recent interview.

The debate is the latest example of how the economics of traditional media are being upended by the growing popularity of video-sharing Web sites like YouTube, and how audiences' tastes and habits are being transformed in the process.

According to Internet marketing research firm comScore, 134 million Americans view online videos each month, with YouTube alone attracting 80 million unique visitors monthly.

The bulk of what they see consists of homemade footage and unauthorized clips of TV shows and movies, some of it blended into video "mash-ups" like the popular "Brokeback to the Future" parody trailer poking fun at the "Back to the Future" movies and the gay cowboy romance "Brokeback Mountain."
